Come elections and the world’s largest Democracy is in the news all across the globe, sometimes for the right reasons but mostly, for the wrong reasons. Amidst the high octane political affair, it is only fair that the Election Commission ensures that polls are conducted in a proper manner, hence, it has launched an app named cVIGIL.
The App has been rolled out for the purpose of maintaining law and order while the elections are being held. The key feature of the App is that it enables the users to alert election authorities if any Model Code of Conduct(MCC) is being violated. cVIGIL is supported by Android on devices running Jellybean or above.
On witnessing any sort of lawlessness during elections, citizens can upload photos and/or videos through the app by adding a short description. Notably, cVIGIL was first launched in 2018 and tested during the Assembly elections of MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Telangana. However, it has been launched across India for the first time now.
The aim of launching cVIGIL is to create a quick complaint reception and redressal system which also urges citizens to be more watchful. The success of this app will depend on the proactive role of the users to report any misconduct during the elections.
