September 11th, 2001 a day that shook the world when the news came out about the horrific terror attacks at New York’s Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. This was considered as the deadliest attacks in American history claiming the lives of more than 2700 people.

While we all know how the events took place and who is responsible for it, here are some unknown facts about this tragic day.

Wrong safety measures:

When the first tower was hit the management team in the second tower had ordered everyone to stay in the building and not leave until help arrives. Soon the second tower was hit and an opportunity to save people was lost.

100 days:

Its took over 100 days for the firefighters to put out the flames caused by the collapsed towers.

2 Million tons of debris:

It took over 9 months for the state to clear all of the debris left behind which amounted to a total of 2 million tons of debris.

A canine hero:

A blind man’s labrador saved him and 30 other people by taking them through smoke and chaos caused by confusion. The owner claimed that the dog remained even though debris were falling all around them.

18 people rescued:

18 people who were buried alive under the debris were rescued by the firefighters.

Meeting rescheduled:

The owners of the building had scheduled a meeting regarding possible terror attacks on the day of the attack. One team member was not able to make it hence the meeting was rescheduled.


The people living nearby were affected by the enormous smoke and many were admitted with serious lung diseases.

A third building fell:

The trade building 7 collapsed after the twin towers and there were conspiracy theories stating that it was done deliberately. Years later after conducting some researches, it was declared that the building collapsed due to the immense heat from the World Trade Center.

Not the first attack on the World Trade Center:

The 9/11 attacks were not the first attacks on the trade center. In 1993, a bomb explosion killed about six people and injured more than 1000 people.

The people who lost their lives in this unfortunate event will never be forgotten and may their soul rest in peace.
