The Legendary Govinda has left us all in splits with his huge confession about him being cast in one of the highest-grossing movies in the world, Avatar. What’s more hilarious is the reason that gave on why he rejected it. Govinda claims that the idea of playing a handicapped character with paint all over the body didn’t go well with him. He also claims that the name ‘Avatar‘ was his suggestion to director James Cameroon. It’s safe to say that a simple paint job on his body cost him his career.
Forget Avatar, as per reports Govinda has also rejected crucial roles in Bollywood for silly reasons. Here are 5 such roles he rejected:
Role In Slumdog Millionaire
Govinda was offered to play the role of the host in Slumdog Millionaire. The part eventually went to Anil Kapoor who nailed the character. Govinda claims that the title Slumdog would have done damage to his career as he was into politics at that period of time.
Lead Role In Gadar- Ek Prem Katha
One of the highlights of Sunny Deol’s career was his role in the movie, Gadar. Interestingly, this role was first offered to Govinda. Govinda’s previous movie Maharaja was directed by the same director of Gadar, Mr. Anil Sharma. Due to the average performance of Maharaja Govinda decided not to do the part in Gadar.
Role In Devdas
Govinda was first offered to play the character Chunnilaal in the film Devdas which features Shahrukh Khan in the lead role. As those were early days in the career of Shahrukh and he wasn’t all that famous, Govinda did not want to play a character that is secondary to Shahrukh. Devdas went on to be the highest-grossing film of that year while ironically all of Govinda’s film that year tanked.
Role in the Movie Taal.
Taal was a romantic movie featuring Akshaye Khanna and Anil Kapoor. Both the actors received a lot of praise for their character. It is said that the role of Anil Kapoor was first offered to Govinda who went on to reject it as he did not want to play the secondary lead to Akshaye Khanna.
Role in the evergreen movie Chandni
Rishi Kapoor’s role in the movie Chandni was first offered to Anil Kapoor who turned it down. Later Govinda was in talks to play the character but eventually, he also turned it down stating he did not want to play a paralyzed character.
Govinda has fallen prey to his own arrogance as his career has seen a major downfall. If only he had done Avatar things would have been different. Or would they?
