Men in Blue, headed by Virat Kohli are winning match after match in the Cricket World Cup of 2019. Moreover, they are winning the hearts of millions of fans! The 12th edition of ICC World Cup started on May 30, with India playing its first match of the tournament on June 5. So far, the country has played 4 matches, out of which it won 3. One match was abandoned due to rain. Here is an overview of Team India’s journey so far:

India VS South Africa (June 05):

The match took place at The Rose Bowl stadium in Southampton on a Wednesday. Being the first match for India, it was the 8th match of ICC World Cup tournament, and 3rd match for South Africa. South Africa won the toss and opted to bat. They scored 227 runs at an expense of 9 wickets. India reached the target 230 runs in 47.3 overs with 4 batsmen out, and won the match by 6 wickets. Player of the Match was Rohit Sharma.

India VS Australia (June 09):

The 14th match of the tournament took place on a Sunday. The venue was at Kennington Oval ground in London. India won the toss and chose to bat. Virat Kohli’s team scored 352 runs at 5 wickets. The Aussies could only manage to draw 316 runs before all of their batsmen hit the dressing rooms. Shikhar Dhawan was awarded Player of the Match.

India VS New Zealand (June 13):

The third match for the Indian team had to be abandoned without toss due to heavy rain. Both teams received one point each. The Umpire for the match expressed his feelings as “It’s been unfortunate but that’s the way it is. The groundstaff did their best but the weather 48 hours prior to today made it really difficult for them. I am not sure what the forecast is but hopefully, the weather is better for Sunday (India-Pakistan game).”

India VS Pakistan (June 16):

The relations between these two countries need no explanation. With billions of people watching the match, it is one of the most stressful games for players. But Men in Blue have a record of winning every World Cup match against Pakistan, and this was no exception. Match on Sunday, June 16, 2019, marked India’s 7th World Cup victory over Pakistan. It was the 22nd match of the tournament.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to field. India scored 336 runs at an expense of 5 wickets. Pakistan scored 212 runs at 6 wickets in 40 overs. According to DLS method, India was declared the winner. Rohit Sharma received Player of the Match award.

For a country where Cricket is not just a game, but followed like a religion, Team India’s progress in the World Cup so far is very delightful. The team is all set to play against Afghanistan on June 22nd, and we have high hopes from Kohli’s men!
